Chairman, Luke Boorer added, “It will be great to get back to Horsebridge as most of our larger training items are stored there and it means the coaches don’t have to keep carting equipment about. We would like to thank Hellingly Parish Council who helped us fund our temporary move to Eastbourne Sports Park for the winter months.  We are so fortunate to have such a supportive Parish council in Hellingly. We also shared the facility with Hellingly Rugby Club which also helped to keep the costs low. It was great to train alongside their adults section as the rugby club have been so supportive of our club since day 1.”

The HoundDogs team, with an extra 4 players from the Phoenix, combined and played in a control scrimmage where teams were given the opportunity to learn the craft of playing American football. Many mistake were made but also worked upon throughout the three hour session.

Coach Boorer added “the session worked well for the players from all three teams. Lots of skills were developed with game situation play. We saw players from the two teams combine to take on the Mavs, who have been competing in the BAFA leagues for the last few years. They have a lot of players with a lot of experience, where as we the total opposite. However, we were no way out played. The HoundDogs players were only given the play book on Wednesday night and the Phoenix played hadn’t even seen it, but they all took the instruction extremely well, and the coaches from both teams should be very pleased with their players. We had a new QB  who only just taken to the position. Liam completed his 1st ever TD and did very little wrong all game. Alex played well at Centre however, we have some work to do on his snapping and Harrison and Ned led the Defence very well some some greta open field tackling.”

Defence MVP – Seb Portales. Work hard all game trying to disrupt the QB, playing against a player twice his size. Seb finished the game with a sack and put the QB under pressure several times.

Offence MVP – Charlie Boorer. Lead the team extremely well keeping his head up and boosting the morale of the other players along with some great high catches and constantly being a threat for the deep pass. Charlie also finished with a TouchDown

Flag 1st Outing of 2019

Sunday the 18th of March saw a team from the HoundDogs travel to Chislehurst, the home of Kent Exiles, for some fun warm up games of Flag American Football.

some of the current Flag teams

The games were more based around development, learning and gaining experience for HoundDogs team.
In all the Hound scored 5 TD’s in the 3, 20 minutes games including 2TDs from Jessica Powell, 2 TD for Joe Powell and one TD for River Chukwu-Onu on his debut.

HoundDogs Flag Coach, Jamie Powell added “We had a great day at the exiles last Sunday. After a slightly nervous start we soon settled in with this being only the first or second matches for most of our players. We drew in ben and Charlie’s experience and the team started to produce plays and defended well. Some excellent tackles made by river in his first outing. Adam started well at quarterback but was caught out very briefly when the the opposition started to blitz. He did however overcome this very well and started side stepping, making passes and running plays using his natural pace. Ben also stepped in at qb and threw some excellent balls and also for a touchdown catch. Charlie was really consistent in all the games at centre and also tackled well. Jess ran in a couple of scores using her pace and joe caught and ran in a couple with cuts and speed. All in it was a great experience for the HoundDogs and one we can really build on for further upcoming fixtures… thanks to all”
